For years Guyanese citizens have been pleading with our leaders to address the issue of noise nuisance. Yet, here we are in the middle of a pandemic and our students at Non Pariel are feeling the effects of this offence, now more than ever. Online classes are in full swing, and so is the loud and continuous music blasting from nearby. Students are unable to hear what is happening in their class. After-class assignments and study time is further disturbed, as the music doesn’t cease. How can they function at their optimum with the constant pounding in their heads? It appears to be an exciting time, with Ministers informing the Nation of all the things students are now going to benefit from. We are all still waiting to hear their address on noise nuisance. No student should be hindered by persons that believe it is their right to play loud continuous music at all hours. No student should be brought to tears and have a sense of hopelessness because this is becoming the norm. This is unacceptable. The Police seem to be incompetent in either stopping the action of these perpetrators, or bringing them to justice.
