The body of a twenty-one-year-old labourer was last Tuesday morning pulled from the Morasi Backdam canal on the East Bank Essequibo with a chop wound to his neck.

Six persons are said to be in police custody in relation to the matter.

The deceased has been identified as Timmol Harris of Waramuri, Moruca, Region 1.

According to the older brother of the dead man, Lee Harris, the younger Harris was killed two days after he was threatened by a relative and a friend he has had a longstanding feud with. Harris’ body was found by farmers heading to their farms. His body was found floating at 7 am on Tuesday, some two miles from where he works on a farm.

Lee Harris said that one of the suspects arrested has since confessed. Commander assigned to Region 3, Errol Watts last evening confirmed this also. The suspect who confessed is also said to be from Moruca.

Lee told this newspaper that last Monday night Timmol  attended a birthday party where two of the suspects with whom he had the ongoing feud were also present.

Lee said he last spoke to his brother two Sundays ago when Timmol called him to invite him to his birthday which would have been this Thursday.

Timmol Harris was laid to rest yesterday.
