This is how it’s done! A Pomeroon woman showing a visiting member of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) how the cassava bread is made. The CDC has deployed personnel to the region to conduct assessments after recent flooding which has affected 145 households in the Upper Pomeroon. In the picture, the woman is putting grated cassava root into a matapee, which is used to remove the cyanide from the cassava to make it edible. This is one of several processes that needs to be done before cassava bread is made.  (Department of Public Information photo)
