Corentyne sluice operator dies after accident

A Corentyne sluice operator succumbed to injuries he sustained after he was reportedly struck along the Bramfield Public Road, East Coast Berbice while riding his bicycle to work. 

Dead is Ganesh Ramlackhan, 26, of Number 11 Village, East Coast Berbice. 

Based on information gathered, on Sunday around 6 pm, a Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne, man, 47, was proceeding home in his motor van, GRR 3351, when it is alleged by him, that Ramlackhan who was proceeding in the opposite direction swerved into his path.

He told police that he swerved to avoid a collision but that his right side rear view mirror still came into contact with Ramlackhan causing him to fall on the main road. 

Ramlackhan, who sustained internal bleeding and a fractured shoulder was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. He was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Monday morning but succumbed while en route. 

His wife, Hemwattie Balkarran, 29, said her husband, a father of three, left home just before 6 pm to head to work with a colleague. However, a couple hours after, her neighbour informed her about the accident. “Me husband get he lil ways especially when he drink but when he sober he is very good”, she said. 

In 2016, Ramlackhan lost his younger brother to an accident which also left his mother hospitalized for some time.
