West Dem taxi driver gets two years for drug trafficking

A West Bank Demerara taxi driver was sentenced to two years in prison after he was arrested on Tuesday and charged yesterday with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

The driver has been identified as forty-eight-year-old Jason Waite of Recht Door Zee, Canal Number One, West Bank Demerara. A police report stated that Waite was charged with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotic Substances (Control) Act.

He appeared yesterday before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court where he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined $17,400.
