Venezuelan, 72, believed to have drowned at Morawhanna

The Police are currently trying to recover the body of a 72-year-old Venezuelan labourer who it is feared drowned while attempting to free a boat’s propeller from a seine on Tuesday.

The incident in which Daniel Enrique Medina went missing occurred around 9.30 am at Morawhanna in Region One.

According to the police, enquiries disclosed that Medina and his 42-year-old son, a boat captain, were travelling in a 22-feet metal boat when the boat’s propeller got entangled with a seine. It was disclosed that Medina volunteered to untangle the propeller and plunged into the river to do so but he never resurfaced.

The matter was reported to the police at the Morawhanna station around 11 am that very day.

Up to yesterday, Region One Commander K. Mandal reported that the body was yet to be found.
