Motorcycle smash-up leaves Cumberland man dead

A Cumberland, East Canje Berbice man died yesterday after he was involved in a smash-up between two motorcycles along the Cumberland Public Road.

 Dead is Clifton Sukhoo, 60, of Lot 70 New Street Cumberland, East Canje Berbice. He sustained major head injuries and other wounds, relatives said yesterday. 

According to information gathered, Sukhoo on motorcycle CH 8875 and another motorcyclist, 35, were proceeding in the same direction along the Cumberland Public Road, when it is alleged that Sukhoo stopped and was in the process of turning west into a street to head home when the front of the other motorcycle hit the rear of his bike.

Persons in the area said the second motorcycle, CG 5056, was proceeding at a fast rate at the time of the collision.

Both men were pitched from their bikes as a result of the collision. 

They were both picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Sukhoo was pronounced dead on arrival, while the other bike rider was admitted in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, a brother of Sukhoo, Mahadeo Jattan, 46, yesterday told Stabroek News that his relatives “want justice” since they were told that the other motorcyclist was speeding.

“We ain’t want no $200,000 bail and thing, I want justice for me brother “, the upset man said.   

The relatives said Sukhoo left home to repair his motorcycle at a workshop.
