Central recruitment agency awards businesses for supporting job placements

The Ministry of Labour’s Central Recruitment and Manpower Agency (CRMA) on Tuesday held an awards ceremony for companies that have played a part in making employment opportunities available for citizens.

The ceremony, held at the SleepIn Hotel, honoured 15 businesses with which Assistant Chief Recruitment and Manpower Officer Yolanda Grant said the CRMA was happy to have partnered with in order to address unemployment issues, particularly among young people.

Grant related that job security was something vital and thus far the collaborations has landed many job seekers opportunities to build stable careers and earn.

She shared that the intention is to continue to work in partnership to help all parties and by extension to help citizens of Guyana to find stability through employment.

The CRMA, which has been in existence for 76 years, also used the occasion to mark its anniversary.

It was stated that the organization has played its part in assisting agencies to find the right candidate to fill the advertised vacant positions.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton, who also addressed the ceremony, noted that employment gained at the various organisations will help the organisations to grow.

He said he believed that it is important that CRMA work to ensure that the youths are certified and accredited for positions in both the private n public sectors. He said CRMA in the upcoming year will also prepare school leavers for the place of work as he made reference to the youths not yet prepared for the world of work in spite of their qualifications. In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Hamilton said the plan is go into the schools and conduct the necessary training and guidance to prepare youths to enter the work place environment.

Hamilton also mentioned plans to develop the CRMA, including to initiate a programme in the private sector to train persons with disabilities in various ways necessary, thereby allowing them to be able to participate in work life and the development of the country.

He also mentioned a plan to focus on programmes to ensure that retirees can be retrained and re-enter the workforce.

Lastly, it was noted that the ministry will also seek to ensure there is a recruitment officer in all regions, so that no region will suffer.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary Bishram Kuppen further disclosed that in the coming year the ministry plans to expand the CRMA website by making it friendlier and partnering with employers to prepare persons for employment opportunities.

Award recipients for 2020 comprised Giftland OfficeMax, Professional Guard Service, Pritipaul Singh Investments Inc, Roraima Duke Lodge, CAMEX Restaurant, Brans Security Service, Qualfon Inc, Emerge BPO, Tastee Dish, Guyana National Printers, Gafsons, Continental Group of Companies, National Hardware, Footsteps Mega Store, and the Beharry Group of Companies (KFC).
