Cops probing death of Philadelphia cane harvester

The police say they are investigating the death of Dhanpaul Ramdai, 53, a cane harvester of Philadelphia, East Bank Essequibo which occurred yesterday at around 9 pm.

Enquiries disclosed that at about 6.30 pm, Ramdai  went out and had a few beers, returned home, had a meal and retired to bed. At about 9 pm he woke up to use the washroom and a loud sound was heard.

Checks were made by the wife of the deceased to ascertain the cause of the sound and she discovered Ramdai lying in front of the washroom door motionless with his face upwards.

He was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival. The body which is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination was examined by a detective and no marks of violence were seen.

Investigations are ongoing.
