A Land of Canaan resident died  following an accident on Tuesday night where he was struck down along the Kuru Kururu Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden High-way.

The deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Bheesham Nandram of Lot 11 Public Road, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara.

According to a police press release, the driver, a 42-year-old resident of North Road, Bourda, Georgetown, at about 9pm was proceeding west along the southern side of the Kuru Kururu Public Road at a fast rate when the accident occurred.

The driver alleges that Nandram suddenly ran from north to south into his path and as a result, the left side of his car hit the pedestrian causing him to fall onto the windscreen and then onto the road.

Nandram was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased’s body was identified at 9.20am yesterday by his 53-year-old mother, Indira Bangatt with whom he lived up until his demise.

The stepfather of Nandram, Gregory Stoll, when contacted by this newspaper said the man was at home around 7pm on Tuesday but then he left their residence. The man said he didn’t know where exactly Nandram was headed when he left but later that night at about 10pm, a friend of the family called informing them of the accident.

Nandram did auto body repair at a mechanic shop at the time of his death.

A Breathalyzer test done on the driver showed no trace of alcohol on his breath. The driver has since been arrested.
