Police ranks from Berbice under the command of two officers of the Narcotics Branch yesterday between 5 am and 6.30 pm, conducted a narcotics eradication exercise at De Veldt Savannah, Upper Berbice River where they destroyed an estimated 101 million dollars in suspected cannabis.

During the exercise, a statement from the police said that the ranks discovered three suspected cannabis farms which measured about 15 acres and contained roughly six hundred thousand cannabis plants ranging from six inches to five feet in height along with six makeshift camps.

The camps were occupied by three men who escaped upon seeing ranks. The area was searched and one 12-gauge single barrel shotgun along with two live 12-gauge cartridges and one 12-gauge empty shell were found. A quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis were found wrapped in transparent plastic bags which weighed 40 pounds.
