(Trinidad Guardian) A former boyfriend of Jada Pierre has been denied bail after appearing in court for allegedly beating her on the head with a hammer.

Gerron Akiba Matthew, 26, unemployed, appeared virtually before Siparia Magistrate Aden Stroude.

He is charged with wounding Pierre with intent to commit grievous bodily harm.

The 22-year-old geriatric nurse of Quarry Village, Siparia was beaten on the head with a hammer on Friday and later thrown out of a vehicle at the side of Fields Road, Santa Flora.

Matthew was charged by Sgt Sobie.

Objecting to bail, prosecutor Jesse Jitmansingh said Pierre was warded in a serious but stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital. Pierre suffered serious injuries to her head.

The prosecutor said the accused, of New City, Fyzabad, also has convictions for firearm and ammunition possession.

Matthew was represented by attorney Keith Scotland who held for attorney Larry Williams. Asking for bail, Scotland said the accused surrendered to the police on Friday and he was not a flight risk.

However, the magistrate remanded him into custody and adjourned the matter to January 28.
