Man in Yarrowkabra crash charged with death by dangerous driving

The driver involved in an accident at Yarrowkabra which claimed the life of Dayle Jordan was released on $300,000 bail after he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Suresh Latchman, 51, of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, made his appearance on Monday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Providence Magistrate’s Court where the charges were read to him.

He was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 on the charge of  causing death by dangerous driving and $7,500 for driving under the influence.

Stabroek News had reported that Jordan, 35, of La Retraite, West Bank Demerara, was riding a motorcycle with a pillion rider, when he died  after he reportedly overtook a car and ended up in the path of a pick-up truck. The accident occurred around 11.30pm on Friday last. The police reported that Jordan and his pillion rider, a 29-year-old La Retraite woman, were proceeding along the road when it is alleged that he overtook a car and collided with a pick-up truck.

The report added that the dead man and the injured woman were both taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where Jordan was pronounced dead and the woman was admitted.

An update given by the police disclosed that the pillion rider was in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, breathalyser tests that were conducted on the 51-year-old driver of the pickup truck revealed that his alcohol level was above the legal limit.
