Police nab two suspects in Cornhill Street robbery

Police have arrested two of the three men involved in a robbery committed on Yogeshwar Seemangal on Tuesday night in the vicinity of Stabroek Market.

Seemangal, 19, of Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara was walking along Cornhill Street, Georgetown when he was confronted by three suspected bandits who proceeded to rob him.

A Guyana Police Force statement said  that at about 8:45pm, the victim was confronted by the suspects, one of whom was armed with a cutlass.

During the confrontation Seemangal was relieved of his haversack valued at $6,000, a Samsung cellphone valued at $71,000, and a pair of ear pods valued at $3,500.

A report was made and officers commenced a search for the bandits. They eventually apprehended two of the three suspects on Lombard Street.

The stolen haversack and ear pods were found in their possession along with the cutlass used during the robbery.

The men remain in police custody as efforts to apprehend the third suspect continue.
