Wismar youth ordered to do community service for cannabis

A man was on Friday given community service after he admitted to having of 37 grammes of cannabis on his person when he was searched by the police.

Shamar Mankou, 18, of 693 Phase 1 ‘B’ Wisroc Housing Scheme, Wismar, Linden, was ordered by Magistrate Wanda Fortune of the Linden Magistrate’s Court to do community service after he admitted to a possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge.

The charge states that on January 22, 2020, at Linden, he had in his possession, 37 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

According to the police, Mankou told the court that he was walking on the road with a brown shoulder bag when the police stopped him and conducted a search on him and the bag. He said that a transparent plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems was found.

After his confession, he was sentenced to eighty hours of community service. The service is to be done at the Wismar Police Station and should he default, he would face six months imprisonment.
