West Indies Off-spinner, Rahkeem Cornwall, says the way the team adopts to the conditions in Bangladesh will be crucial in the upcoming Test series.
The 27-year-old, six-feet, six inches Antiguan, is expected to be one of the main spinners when West Indies face Bangladesh in the first Test from February 3 to 7.
During an interview on the sidelines of their practice session yesterday, Cornwall revealed the time spent so far in the country has benefited them in their preparation.
“Yes it [extra time in Bangladesh has] helped. You need time to adapt to the conditions. It’s difficult to play in these conditions and the more time you get to understand the conditions is better for us,” he said.
According to Cornwall the team’s preparation was coming along nicely.
“I think the preparation is coming along good. We have a few practice sessions, the coaches are putting in the work with us and we just have to stay focussed and make sure we do the job at hand.”
Cornwall is of the opinion that the conditions in Bangladesh are not much different from the Caribbean.
“It just spins a bit more. The pitches are a bit drier than in the Caribbean. We just have to adapt to them and play to the best of our ability.”
Cornwall, who has played three tests and has 13 wickets under his belt, added, “We just have to get a win that is first and foremost. Once we can win the series that is good for West Indies cricket and we just hope we can play good cricket for the fans back home.”
