Plaisance man shot dead by cop during confrontation- police

The Police say they are investigating a fatal shooting which resulted in the death of Sherwin Filley C/D Red Ants, age 22 years, unemployed of Plaisance, ECD and which occurred today at about 01:50hrs at Ogle Seawall, ECD

The police said that Filley was wanted for Robbery, Robbery with Violence  and three counts of wounding  committed on a 50-year- old resident of Vryheids Lust ECD.

Enquiries disclosed that on 2021.01.29 at about 01:20hrs, acting on information receive Police went to an abandoned wooden shack at the Ogle Seawall, ECD where Filley was locked inside.

As a result Police decided to force open the door and attempted to apprehend Filley who was armed with a cutlass.

“The suspect then attacked the Police who discharged a round which struck Filley to his eye, he fell to the ground and was picked up and escorted to the GPHC where he was seen and examined by a Doctor on duty who pronounced him  dead on arrival. The body is presently lying at the GPHC Mortuary awaiting post mortem examination”, the police said.
