Over 30 security guards attached to the Integrated Security Services Inc held a protest on Monday to seek two months of payments owed to them.

Many of the guards, who are stationed at Black Bush Polder, said they decided to protest as their bills and other expenses are piling up.

Stabroek News yesterday contacted the company’s main office in Georgetown but was told that the public relations officer was in a meeting and could not speak with this newspaper. Stabroek News was asked to leave a number but no contact was made with it up to press time yesterday.

“I have my children and I have to maintain them. I have my light bill to pay. I have my water bill to pay and also I have to pay rent and it’s very hard for me,” Norma Singh, 59, said. “I’m glad if they could pay us our money. We don’t want to wait again,” the frustrated woman added.

Sookdeo Mathura, 34, stationed at the Mibicuri Hospital, explained that they have not received any payments for the last two months despite working. “I am asking if we can get our salary. I’m asking if we can get our pay urgently… We want it right now”.

Additionally, the man said that he and other workers have discovered that their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) contributions have also not been paid over. “Our NIS is not paid. We worked with this company since 2017 and no NIS has been paid for us,” he added.

Simone Bissoon, a single mother of two, said, “Rain, sunshine we deh at it and them ain’t paying we. That is unaccept-able. You think is easy for work for $40,000 and you got to wait two months before you get one month pay [and] you a live in debt?”

According to Bissoon, her son travels out of Black Bush Polder to attend high school and she is finding it extremely hard to support him without her salary.
