Teen gets bail after escaping custody

A teen was yesterday released on bail for an escaping custody charge and a robbery charge after assuring the court that he will attend his court dates.

Trevor Parris, 18, was yesterday charged with escaping police custody. He appeared virtually before Chief Magistrate Ann McClennon at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on the 11th January, 2021, at the Brickdam Police Station, he escaped custody while being held on a criminal charge.

The teen pleaded not guilty. Parris was represented by attorney-at-law, Paul Fung-A-Fat, who told the court that his client has been on remand for three weeks for a robbery charge. He asked that the court release the teen on bail for both the robbery charge and the escaping custody charge.

Parris assured the court that should he be released, he will attend his court hearings.

The police prosecutor objected to him being released on bail but the Chief Magistrate was satisfied with the teen’s assurance and granted him bail.

He was released on $20,000 bail for the previous charge and $5,000 bail for the one read to him yesterday. He was also told to report to the Brickdam Police Station every Friday at 8:30 am.

The matter has been adjourned until March 11.
