Bus driver charged with causing death by dangerous driving

A mini-bus driver was yesterday charged with causing death by dangerous driving and released on $250,000 bail.

Rampersaud Persid appeared in the courtroom of Magistrate Peter Hugh at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court where he was read the indictable charge.

The charge states that on February 1, 2021, he drove a mini-bus, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of a pedal cyclist, 30-year-old Shamsudeen Mohamed.

According to the charge, Persid was in contravention of Section 35 (1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.

He was placed on $250,000 bail.

The matter has been adjourned to February 18, 2021.
