An Upper Corentyne man and a Lindener were on Saturday evening injured in an accident along the Number 72 Corentyne Public Road involving three cars.

The accident involved motor car, #HC 5420, which was being driven by Mfedhili Adedapo Campbell, 40, a hire car driver of Lot 121 First Alley Hill, Linden with passengers Joseph Smith, 25, of Lot 47 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden and Kareem Ashby, 30, also of Central Amelia’s Ward Linden. Motor car, #PRR 9415 was being driven by Kamesh Chand Chatterpaul, 25, a barber of Lot 151 Section B Number 72 Village, Corentyne. Motor car, # HC 1445 was stationary and is owned by Bhagnauth Gurdayal, 30, of Lot 116 Section ‘A’, Number 72 Village Corentyne.

According to information gathered, just around 9 pm on Saturday, motor car PRR 9415 was proceeding south along the eastern driveway, when it is alleged by Chatterpaul that he was in the process of turning right when motor car # HC 5420 which was proceeding in the opposite direction allegedly at a fast rate slammed into the front of his car.

As a result of this, Campbell reportedly lost control of the vehicle and hit the rear left side of motor car #HC 1445 which was parked on a culvert on the western side of the main public road.

Stabroek News was told that passenger Smith sustained head wounds while Chatterpaul suffered a leg injury.

They were both taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital. Smith, whose condition was regarded as serious but stable, was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. Chatterpaul has been admitted at the Skeldon Hospital with fractured right leg.

Breathalyzer tests were conducted on both drivers and showed no presence of alcohol. The vehicles involved were lodged at the Springlands Police Station.

As of yesterday Campbell was in police custody assisting with the investigation.
