Mahaicony fisherman feared drowned

A Mahaicony resident is feared dead after he was hit by a wave on Monday while attending to a hole in a boat at Three Miles, offshore Belladrum, West Coast Berbice.

The missing man has been identified as Lloyd John, 45, of Catherine, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

The police in a statement said John, who went out to sea with the intention of fishing, went missing at about 6:30 hours after being hit by a wave that subsequently carried him further out to sea.

At the time of the incident, the missing man was in the company of Edmond Duke, a 61 year-old fisherman also of Catherine, Mahaicony.

According to the report, after John went missing, Duke managed to escape from the sinking boat and was later rescued by fishermen on a larger vessel.

He was taken to the Abary Sluice Outpost where the matter was reported.
