NA woman kills partner during fight

A New Amsterdam, Berbice woman is now in police custody after she fatally stabbed her partner during the wee hours of yesterday morning at Main and Pitt streets, New Amsterdam during a fight.

Dead is Anthony Giddings, also known as ‘Big head,’ 45, of Lot 14 Pitt Street, New Amsterdam.

According to information gathered, the woman, Anita Hanuman, 43, who lives at the same address, dealt the man two stab wounds around 1.30 am yesterday using the knife which she claimed he whipped out and attempted to attack her with.

After stabbing the man the woman ran over to the nearby New Amsterdam Police Station, where she told investigators that Giddings asked her for a lighter and after she told him she did not have one he allegedly became annoyed and they started to argue.

The suspect claimed that the deceased then whipped out a knife from his waistband and threatened to stab her multiple times, causing her to run onto the main road where they started to fight.

During the scuffle the woman claimed she took away the knife from the deceased and dealt him two stabs to the left side of his chest.

The man was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Police Station, where he died while receiving treatment yesterday morning.

The murder weapon was found at the scene.

Meanwhile, the woman claimed to investigators, that she and the man shared an intimate relationship and he would often abuse her.

However, when investigators returned with the woman to the scene yesterday, neighbours began to accuse her of always abusing the deceased.

According to neighbours, the two, who are both unemployed, would drink and smoke together every day and then start to fight. “Is normal thing with them,” one woman noted.
