The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is presently searching for a 40-year-old Kumaka construction worker who is suspected of trafficking a 17-year-old Venezuelan girl.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement identified Neil Jordan, of Kumaka Waterfront, North West District and Lot 252 Grove East Bank Demerara, as the suspect.  It explained that the 17-year-old, who lived in Tucipita, Venezuela, arrived in Guyana in November of last year. Police enquiries disclosed that the teen, after arriving in Guyana, was residing at a wharf at Kumaka Waterfront, Mabaruma, North West District.

The report stated that the teen subsequently sent for her 15-year-old brother, who arrived in Guyana on January 26th, 2021, and was also staying at the wharf, where he later began working as a labourer.

The report further shared that the young woman was befriended by London, who later began living with her. However, on February 16th, at about 8.30 am, London reportedly took the teen to Georgetown, leaving her younger brother behind.

According to the statement, a report was made at the Mabaruma Police Station by the girl’s brother, who is now in the care of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. (UNHCR)
