A brand new punt dumper will be constructed to the tune of $400m at the Albion Estate, GuySuCo’s Chief Executive Officer, Sasenarine Singh announced yesterday.

According to him, they are presently in the design phase but it is expected to come into operation by the second crop in 2022.

Singh said that the pump dumper will eventually pay for itself and there will be huge savings at the location.

Estate Manager, Threbhowan Shiwprasad explained, that the new punt dumper will add efficiency to the operations at the Albion Estate, and that they are estimating to save $127M annually with the punt dumper.

According to him, with the present system each punt has to have a sling chain, “and those sling chains are sizeable”.

He said that the chains take a lot of time to be fixed on the heist itself and often get caught between.   However, the punt dumper “would lift the punt and throw straight into the cane carrier”.

Further, he said, the punt dumper would not only increase efficiency but require less resources and assist with cleaning and maintaining punts.

Shiwprasad stressed, that this would be a major improvement for the estate.
