Charlotte Street vendor and son arrested after raid uncovers ganja, stolen items

A vendor and her son were arrested on Thursday after the police found a quantity of narcotics and suspected stolen items at their Charlotte Street home.

The police said Ingrid Chase, 66, and her son, Andrew Paul, 48, both of Lot 180 Charlotte Street, Georgetown were arrested after their home was searched and the illegal articles were discovered.

The release said that the police ranks from Division 4(a), acting on information received, went to the home and made contact with the two, who are both vendors. Chase and Paul occupy the upper flat of the home, while Chase’s 40-year-old daughter also lives in the lower flat.

The ranks proceeded to conduct a search of the upper flat, where a brown barrel was inspected and two brown salt bags were found inside the barrel. The police said that one of the bags contained five transparent parcels which were wrapped and the other contained four transparent parcels. It was said that the parcels contained leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

According to the police, a further search was conducted and a carton was found under a bed. The box contained three transparent parcels, which also contained leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis. The suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 27 kilogrammes found in one of the bags and 343 grammes found in the other.

The statement also said that two television sets and two gas bottles were found in the lower flat of the house. The police have alleged that one of the television sets was stolen during a break and enter and larceny offence which occurred on the 15th January 2021 at Pike Street, Prashad Nagar.

The two vendors were arrested and efforts are being made to locate Chase’s daughter while investigations are in progress, according to the release.
