Chesney fisherman jailed for one year on firearm charge

A Chesney, Corentyne fisherman was on Monday sentenced to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm.

Witamanie Moonsammy, also known as ‘Kevin’, 27, a fisherman of Lot 291 Chesney Front, Corentyne, Berbice, who was arrested on Saturday, appeared before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the Albion Magistrate’s Court.

He was charged with  Possession of a Firearm without being the holder of a Licence, to wit one single-barrel shotgun. Moonsammy after pleading guilty in court was sentenced to one year in prison by Magistrate Singh.
