Transport Sports Club marked their return to the field with three wins in four friendly matches over the weekend in Georgetown.

On Saturday, the Thomas Lands-based club had a packed schedule with three matches, winning two against Queen’s College Second Division and South West Essequibo. They, however, lost to Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO).

The following day, Transport SC registered a comfortable win over Diplomats.

(L-R) John Persaud (4-17) and Nehemiah Hohenkirk (4-16) were too much for Diplomats

In their first encounter, Transport brushed aside Queen’s College before fielding an Under-19 team that featured an array of Under-17 and Under-15 players but the youths surrendered to MYO by 35 runs.

Transport then switched to a 35-overs-a-side contest and locked horns in an Under-17 battle with South West Essequibo, winning by 57 runs at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Queenstown.

Transport won the toss and batted, posting 182 for eight before bundling out the Cinderella County side for 125 in 24 overs.

Kevlin Gordon top scored for Transport with 31 but it was a collective effort from the batting order with Shaquan Walters (27), Jeremiah Hoenkirk (23), Alvin Mohabir (22) and Ryan Latif (21) getting among the runs. Transport also benefitted from 34 extras.

Loan players, Romeo Deonarain (2-19) and Myheim Khan (2-43) were the leading bowlers for South West Essequibo.   In reply, the Latif brothers, Reaz and Riyad strangled South West Essequibo with two wickets for five and 19 runs respectively while skipper Mohabir returned to claim two wickets for 11 runs. Mohabir’s brother, Aaron top scored with 21 and was supported by Persaud (20) and Ronaldo Scouten (12).

Later, in a day/night T20, South West Essequibo, after winning the toss, inserted Transport who made 109 for eight in their 20 overs and bowled out South West Essequibo for 72 in 15.2 overs.

Walters top scored with 24. His innings was decorated with three boundaries while Ryan Latif chipped in with a four-boundary 22. Extras accounted for 29 runs as Aryan Persaud bagged three wickets for 11 while Deonarain and Mark Mohabir took two wickets each.

In reply, only Thaddeous Lovell (13) and Shawn Vieira (11) managed double figure scores as Sankar bamboozled the Essequibians to end with 4-12. Dave Mohabir was also instrumental with the ball, claiming 3-19.

On Sunday, Transport defeated Diplomats by six wickets in a 25-over affair at Transport Sports Club.

Overnight and early morning showers coupled with a heavy dust affected the venue and Transport won the toss and promptly inserted the Diplomats side.

The Diplomats’ lack of on field activity due to the COVID-19 pandemic was evident as they crawled to 100 all out in 19.2 overs.

All-rounder, Jeffrey Blair was the livewire of the Diplomats’ innings, hammering five boundaries including one six on his way to a top score of 37 before being removed by nippy fast bowler, Nehemiah Hoenkirk who led the dismantling with figures of 4-16. He was supported by fellow fast bowler, John Persaud (4-17) and off-spinner, Sankar (2-14).

In reply, Transport’s chase was piloted by a 44-run second-wicket stand between Jeremiah Hoenkirk (26) and Ryan Latif (14) while Gabriel Rookhum made a 17-run cameo to see them secure a comfortable win.

Left-arm spinner, Michael Jeffrey was the lone resistance with the ball, taking 4-4 in three overs to delay Transport’s victory.
