Alberttown man dies after struck in head

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an Alberttown man after being hit in his head by an individual who was consuming alcohol.

The dead man has been identified as John (only name given) of First Street, Alberttown, Georgetown.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, told Stabroek News that John approached a group of men who were consuming alcohol in the vicinity of Light and First streets, Alberttown.

It was at this point one of the individuals from the group got up and punched the man in his head. As a result of the punch, John fell to the ground and remained in an unconscious state.

The eyewitness said that the suspect and the other men immediately fled the scene and it was he who called for Emergency Medical Technicians. However, he was informed that there was no available team and was asked to seek help to take the man to the hospital.

Not long after, he said the police arrived on the scene and began processing it as the man remained motionless.

Police investigations are continuing.
