Employees among five charged with breach of COVID measures at Sleepin Hotel

A group of persons have been charged and granted bail for allegedly breaching the National COVID-19 Emergency Measures.

David Narine, Lynella Gonsalves, Robin Cordis, Suanna Stevens, Marvin Liverpool, and Troy Nedd, were on Wednesday read separate charges of breach of COVID-19 Emergency Measures when they appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that on March 7, at Sleepin Hotel & Casino on Church Street, Georgetown, they hosted a party, in breach of the COVID-19 Emergency Measures.

Narine denied the allegation while the other accused pleaded guilty to the charge. However, they all explained that they had not been hosting a party.

According to Gonsalves and Stevens, they are employees of the hotel’s casino. They told the court they had been working when the police swooped down arrested them.

Cordis on the other hand said he was parking in the area to go shopping when the police arrived. And Liverpool declared that he was “at the wrong place at the wrong time,” while Nedd told the court that he was a guest at the hotel and was checking out at the time of the arrest.

The Magistrate entered a not guilty plea on behalf of the five persons who pleaded guilty with explanations. They were placed on $10,000 bail each and the matters were adjourned until May 10.
