When will COVID vaccine centres be opened in Georgetown?

Dear Editor,

My father, who is 95 years old, and I are both eligible to receive the COVID vaccine at this time. However, he is reluctant to take the trip to Enmore especially since we do not know how long he would have to sit and wait his turn, and there appears to be no system of making an appointment for the more frail and elderly. I have been paying attention to the news and understand that more vaccines will be arriving and more centres will be opened up. Can someone say when this is likely to happen and whether centres will be opened up within the Georgetown area especially since the vaccination procedure requires two trips and two wait times?

A cousin received his jab in Berbice and he is slated to return in June for his second which is over two months away. I read, however, that the Prime Minister and his wife will receive their second dose in approximately 10 days’ time. I am perplexed and rather worried about this discrepancy. Is there one procedure for some and another for us ordinary citizens? Does the two-month interval between doses reduce the vaccine’s efficacy and if it does not why then is the same protocol not used for everyone?

Sincerely,

Ryhaan Shah
