Fishers attacked by pirates on Waini River

A group of fishers from the Essequibo Coast were on Wednesday robbed of more than $100,000 in  fish and other valuables by six pirates on the Waini River in Region One.

According to a statement by the Guyana Police Force, Kumar Narine, 26, Joel D’Aguiar, 22, and two juveniles were robbed of food, fuel, cellular phones and about $100,000 in fish late Wednesday night. The incident occurred on the Kamwatta Waini River.

The police stated that the victims allege that they were attacked by six men who were armed with firearms and spoke both English and Spanish.

The victims reported the robbery at the Morawhanna Police Station yesterday afternoon. Investigations are ongoing.
