RHT Bakewell wins Let’s Bet ‘Champion-of-Champions’ 100-ball tournament

An all-round performance from Kevlon Anderson at Albion Community Centre Ground saw Rose Hall Town Bakewell defeating D’Edward Sports Club by six wickets to lift the Berbice Cricket Board/Let’s Bet `Champion-of-Champions’ 100-ball tournament.

D’Edward won the toss and batted in the match reduced to 76 balls a side due to a late start.

D’Edward posted 81 all out from their full quota.

Jaipaull Heeralall blasted two sixes in  the top score of 33 from 21 balls while  Dinnauth Persaud supported with a 20-ball 18, highlighted by two boundaries.

Former West Indies Under-19 seamer, Anderson took 3-15 and former Guyana youth pacer, Sylus Tyndall, 2-15.

In the chase, Junior Sinclair stroked one six and two fours in 24, adding 35 for the opening partnership with  Surendra Kissonlall who made 16.

Abdool Subhan took two quick wickets as RHT Bakewell slipped to 50 for two after seven overs.

However, Man-of-the-Final, Anderson, scored a responsible 25 before he was  bowled by Deoram France with his side four runs away from victory.

RHT Bakewell eventually reached 82 for four with nine balls to spare and in the process walking away $100,000 richer while D’Edward settled for $50,000.

Anderson, after the match, said that it was a tough day in the field with back-to back-matches.

Speaking at the presentation, Berbice representative of the Lotto Company, Dave Seecharran, expressed the company’s satisfaction with the  tournament and commended all the teams for an excellent showing.

Seecharran added that the company would be happy to continue their partnership with the Berbice Cricket Board.

President of the County Board, Hilbert Foster said that 90 second-division teams participated in the tournament across four zones.

Earlier, RHT Bakewell did not get an easy road into the final, winning their super over showdown by one run over Dukestown Warriors.

RHT Bakewell won the toss and inserted Dukestown Warriors who managed 93-4.

Four dropped catches helped Jermaine Reid pilot the fight back with 21, laced with two boundaries while Budram Sukdeo supported with 17 not out. They shared a 49-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Errol Byass chipped in with 16 while Sinclair and Anderson had one wicket a piece.

In the chase RHT Bakewell also managed 93-3 to tie the match despite Anderson scoring 43 and Surrendra Kissoonlall making 27.

The super over saw Dukestown Warriors gifting five extras as RHT Bakewell managed 7-2 from four balls. Dukestown Warriors only managed 6-2.

Meanwhile in the other semi-final, D’ Edward defeated Rose Hall Canje by six runs to advance. D’Edward won the toss and batted in the match reduced to 76 balls. They posted 97 for six with Altaf Khan top scoring with 33. He was supported by Subhan (17) and Heeralall (16). Mark Sampson was the pick of the bowlers for Rose Hall Canje, taking a hat trick to end with 4-14.

Rose Hall Canje in reply, was restricted to 91 for seven with Sasenarine Sukhu (25) and Lloyd David (21) the principal scorers. Hemraj Harilall and Deoram France took two wickets each for 14 runs while Devendra Lalsa bagged 2-20.

The two losing semi-finalists pocketed $20,000 each.
