Restrictions on Phagwah celebrations announced due to COVID

The Ministry of Health has announced restrictions for the upcoming Phagwah celebrations, including prohibiting large events and limiting the attendance at mandirs, due to COVID-19.

Phagwah/Holi will be celebrated on Sunday March 28.

In an advisory issued on Friday, the ministry noted that all events at mandirs, including cultural programmes, chowtaal samelan and satsangh/services are allowed at 40% capacity even as it encouraged that they utilise outdoor spaces wherever available.

While large events which involve hundreds or thousands of persons are not allowed, socially distanced gatherings for the burning of Holika are allowed. Gatherings on trucks, canters or other vehicles carrying alcohol are not allowed.

The ministry added that masks must be worn at all times while also recommending social distancing along with regular hand washing and sanitizing.

The ministry encouraged persons to celebrate within their home circles.
