For the first time, the Oncology Clinic of the Georgetown Public Hos-pital (GPHC) has been outfitted with a sanitary pad dispenser.

The donation was made possible by the charity Girls Inspire Girls—a non-profit organisation comprising a group of women whose aim is to make a difference in the lives of women and girls in whatever way they can.

Founder of the organization, Sasha Pollard, said that the donation is tailored towards assisting with the emergency needs of women and girls visiting the clinic for chemotherapy and other associated treatment.

Pollard in a brief interview on Tuesday told Stabroek News she hopes that the small gesture will go a long way in helping to support women on their cancer journey.

She opined that being already mentally taxed with much to do, women who are battling the disease may at times forget certain essentials, and advanced the donation of the dispenser as a convenient one to help provide support in a time of need.

She said that representatives of the clinic expressed their gratitude to Girls Inspire Girls for the donation which they described as timely.

The machine dispenses the sanitary essentials—both pads and tampons—free of cost by just a turn of the respective knob.

Pollard said that donors to her charity have taken up the mantle of ensuring that the dispenser is kept fully supplied.

In thanking her donors for their support, Pollard expressed hope as she encouraged others to support the welfare of women and girls wherever they can.

The dispenser was handed over to the Oncology Clinic a few days ago.
