A toddler died on Thursday afternoon after a tree fell on him and his mother in the vicinity of Cashew Landing, Tasserene Backdam, Middle Mazaruni.
The dead child was identified as Onan Alfred, one-year-old, of Tasserene Village.
According to a police source, the deceased and his mother, Corsia Alfred, were walking along Cashew Landing around 4pm on Thursday when the tree fell and struck them both.
As a result, Onan sustained injuries to his head, upper right eye and the right side of his upper back, while his mother received injuries to a lower limb.
The two were taken to the Regional Health Post, where Onan was pronounced dead on arrival.
His mother was treated for her injuries and discharged.
