Rain forced the second New York Tri-State Under-15 match to be abandoned after Georgetown Cricket Club’s (GCC) Rivaldo Phillips chalked up a comfortable century yesterday at Muslim Youth Organisation ground, Woolford Avenue.

With early morning showers forcing the match to start two hours late, a rain interruption halfway through the first innings caused a revision in the overs from 40 to 30.

GCC won the toss and elected to bat first,  reaching 108 for six after 19.5 overs when the rain intervened and an early lunch was taken as some 25 minutes were lost.

The City side eventually posted 187 all out from 29.3 overs. The North American side then reached 35 for the loss of two wickets when rain ended their innings 10 overs into the chase.

The day’s play belonged to Phillips who stroked 102 from 73 balls. The right-hander belted 10 fours on the small ground. He also stroked seven sixes, favouring the off-side with five of them in that region.

He also struck a delivery straight over New York skipper and USA under-19 prospect, Nayan Elamurugan’s head and onto Albert Street.

Phillips, who survived a run out while on 98, struggled to build partnerships as GCC slipped to 38 for three after nine overs.

However, he found a partner in Deonarine Dindial who made just six from  their 64-run, sixth-wicket stand.

Phillips, after bringing up his century with a four over square leg, top-edged an easy  catch to Ansh Rai at point off the next delivery.

Only Krsna Singh and Aryan Persaud reached double figures with 13 runs each,  both carving one four and one six during their innings.

Extras accounted for 26 runs.

Left-arm pacer, Arya Garg was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2-30 but was taken off the bowling for two no-balls over waist height.

Off-spinner, Nikhil Mudaliar and Ali Virk also took two wickets for 34 and 38 runs respectively while Abrahim Yerura, Rai and Anirudh Bolisetty took one wicket apiece.

In the chase, Joash Charles got the early breakthrough while Persaud also took a wicket with his left-arm spin to leave the New York side 35-2 with Ukarash Sriva on 10 not out.

The touring side will now take on Everest at Everest today at 09.30 hours.
