A man was on Monday arrested after he was found with 711 grammes of suspected cannabis at Good Success, Wakenaam Island, Essequibo River.

The police reported that ranks, while acting on information received, visited the location where the man was observed acting in a suspicious manner.

The man, who was at the time riding a bicycle, was stopped and told of the police suspicions after which he was searched.

During the search, a silver foil wrap containing a quantity of leaves and stems along with a transparent zip-lock bag containing nine small transparent zip-lock bags with leaves, stems and seeds were found in his right side front pocket.

A further search conducted led to officers discovering a black plastic bag in the suspect’s left hand with two bulky parcels of suspected cannabis wrapped in transparent plastic.

The man was arrested and taken to the San Souci Police Station along with the suspected cannabis.

He remained in custody awaiting charges up to yesterday.
