Nine held outside  Vergenoegen beer garden for breaching curfew

Nine persons who were caught consuming alcohol at Vergenoegen after the curfew on Saturday night were arrested by members of the Joint Services.

The police in a statement yesterday said that the persons were caught drinking in front of a popular beer garden on the Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo public road.

The enforcement exercise was conducted by members from the National COVID-19 Task Force, the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana Police Force in Regional Division 3 between 10.40 pm on Saturday and 12.40 am on Sunday.

The release said that as of recent, scores of persons have been detained in the Region Three District during a series of COVID-19 enforcement exercises.

Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Errol Watts stated that the exercises will continue as part of an effort to ensure that the safety protocols are adhered to and there is no breach of the curfew.
