Twelve held in Mabaruma over face masks, distancing

Twelve persons were on Saturday night arrested during a Joint Services mass patrol in the Mabaruma Station District, North West.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a press release yesterday stated that 8 of the 12 persons arrested were apprehended for failure to wear a face mask while the remaining four were arrested for failure to maintain social distancing.

The release stated that the patrol which was done during the period of 7.30 pm and 10.30 pm on Saturday visited areas such as Kumaka Waterfront, Hosororo Hill and Mabaruma Township.

During the exercise persons were stopped and searched after which a total of 12 persons were arrested for breaching the COVID-19 guidelines.

The report added that persons were warned to follow the necessary protocols while in public places.
