Brighton man hospitalised after shot by thief at BBQ

A Brighton Village, Corentyne man is now hospitalised after he was shot in his right leg by a thief during the wee hours yesterday.

Damion Mc Kenzie also known as ‘Tukman’, 29, a welder of Lot 11 Brighton Village, Corentyne, is presently at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in a stable condition.

Stabroek News was told that Mc Kenzie was at a BBQ event at Alness Village, Corentyne, when while dancing around 2 am he felt someone approach him from behind and grab his two gold chains.

The thief then escaped with the chains but Mc Kenzie chased after him. The perpetrator then whipped out a gun from his waist and discharged three rounds at Mc Kenzie.

Stabroek News was told that Mc Kenzie sustained a gunshot injury to his right leg.

 The man was picked up and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital and was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

As of yesterday afternoon police were still on the hunt for the suspect.
