Defective electrical points

Dear Editor,

During the APNU+AFC’s tenure in governance, I was quite pleased when an announcement was made to stop passing houses with the cheap/inferior electrical points (duplex).   I’ve witnessed many of these points proving to be defective and in many cases, they spark when you push a plug in. In addition, after a few uses, they become quite loose. I’ve always insisted that should someone require my services/help, they purchase the best points to use after advising them of the dangers of using the cheap point.

Editor, over the years dabbling with electricity, I’ve found the Cooper brand points to be the best, which is my first/only choice and over the years, they  have become scarce on the shelves of stores. They have been slowly replaced by other brands and when requesting the Cooper, the staff would give you another brand. Upon installing them or even before, the back would break out or even when using.

Quite recently, there was a call for consumers to stop using them. It’s not strange to see calls for certain measurements to be put in place and responsible agencies are not acting. Meanwhile, consumers are paying quite more for these inferior products.

Yours faithfully,

Sahadeo Bates
