Narayan and Priyanna Ramdhani will attend the XXIV Pan Am individual championships in Guatemala later this month in an effort to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.

A release from the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) stated that the siblings, currently on scholarship at Kings University and Olds College in Alberta, Canada as Student/Athletes, will be playing to get the necessary qualification points to attend the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games.

At the Pan Am Championships,  Narayan was to play in the singles elimination round of 64. However he received a first round bye and will now contest the round of 32.

The large number of entries is due to many players from round the world needing points.

Priyanna will be playing to get her qualification points to attend the Cali South American Youth Games.

She too will play in the singles elimination round of 32 at the Pan Am Championships.

They will also team up in the mixed doubles contesting the round of 32. After a year without competition due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they both will try their utmost to get the necessary qualification points, the release stated.

.  “Because of the pandemic, they were exposed to limited training as some venues were restricted and had to be worked around when they could to get on court. This sometimes meant they had to travel for two hours, train for two hours and travel back for two hours twice a week,” stated the release.

“The GBA is happy for them to return to competition and would like to thank the Minister of Sports, the Honorable Charles Ramson Jr., President of the GOA [Guyana Olympic Association], Mr. Kalam Juman-Yassin, Demerara Bank, Dr. Yesu Persaud, Mohameds Enterprise, Mr. Mohamed and Ms. Ayanna Watson for making it possible for them to attend the championships,” the release stated.
