‘Ninja Man’ shot after pulling knife during arrest attempt

A man who was wanted by the police for a range of offences, including wounding and breaking and entering, was shot during an attempt to resist arrest on Wednesday.

The injured man was identified as Conway Higgins, also known as ‘Ninja Man ‘, 24 of Anns Grove, East Coast Demerara, who was shot in his right thigh after he allegedly pulled a knife and advanced towards a police officer.

The police, in a report, stated that a mobile unit was carrying out a cordon and search exercise around 3.55pm in the Anns Grove district, where they received information that Higgins was in the area.

The report said Higgins, after seeing the police approaching, ran.

As a result, several ranks gave chase and he jumped several fences in a bid to escape. However, he was eventually caught in the vicinity of a field at Clonbrook.

The report explained that after being cornered Higgins allegedly pulled out a knife and advanced towards the officer.

According to the police, Higgins was warned several times but continued to advance. As a result, he was shot in his right thigh.  He was picked up and taken to the CC Nicholson Hospital, where he is presently receiving treatment under police guard. The knife found in his possession was lodged at the Cove and John Police Station.
