Providence man shot on Carifesta Avenue by motorbike bandit

Bandits yesterday shot a 38-year-old resident of Providence, East Bank Demerara and robbed him of half a million dollars in  cash on Carifesta Avenue in broad daylight.

The victim, who police did not identify is presently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital. His condition is listed as stable.

According to information gathered, the victim was driving motor vehicle PZZ 6538  west on the southern carriageway of Carifesta Avenue and stopped at  the Camp Road traffic light.

As he was waiting, police said he felt an impact from behind and observed two men on a motorcycle. One of the men, who was armed with a hand gun jumped off and rushed towards the vehicle.

When the gunman got to the driver’s side of the vehicle, he pointed the gun at the driver and shot him in the right leg.  The victim then exited the car and ran for help.

The unarmed bandit then entered the vehicle and seized the cash which was in an envelope on the front passenger seat.

The two perpetrators then fled the scene.

While investigators were processing the crime scene, a warhead and spent shell were recovered.

Investigations are continuing.
