Bartica men wanted over threat to flight

Police are searching for three men who reportedly issued a threat to a chartered domestic flight on Monday morning at the Bartica airstrip after being informed that they were not allowed to board.

Police Commander of Region Seven Dion Moore yesterday told Stabroek News that one of the three persons threatened to take action after the pilot informed them that they were not allowed on the plane.

According to the Commander, as the chartered aircraft was preparing to depart, three men on bicycles rode up to the plane and asked the pilot if they could be allowed on the flight. However, the pilot responded in the negative and one of the men allegedly uttered, “You gon’ see what gon’ happen hay” then rode off.

Moore noted that checks were made for the individuals but investigators were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Guyana Police Force spokesman Mark Ramotar yesterday said on his Facebook page that there was no harm of escalation subsequent to the threat and passengers along with the pilot returned to Ogle Airport safely.

He said that Air Services Limited is taking the matter seriously and the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has been informed of the incident.

Efforts by this newspaper to contact representatives of the airline and the Authority for comment were futile as calls to them went unanswered.
