Twenty-eight Berbicians to be charged with breaching COVID restrictions

Twenty-eight residents of Region Six are expected to appear in various magistrate’s courts this week to face charges of breaching COVID-19 restrictions.

On Wednesday last, seven persons were arrested for breaching the restriction on domestic travel in the Lower Corentyne Area after ranks attached to the Albion Police Station carried out an exercise.  Sholam Vanderstoop of Lot 1095 Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice; Bhushan Sukhdeo of Lot 276 Hampshire, Corentyne; Suechand Balkishun of Number 46 Village, Corentyne; Avesh Peeramootoo of John’s Corentyne; Jaya Prettipaul of John’s Corentyne; Ramanand Latchman of Lot 191 Hampshire Village, Corentyne and Kavin Hansraj of Lot 140 Belvedere Village, Corentyne were all arrested.

The seven persons have since been released on their own recognisance and are expected to appear at the Albion Magistrate’s Court on May, 7.  

Meanwhile, on the said evening, 12 persons were arrested for breaching the requirement for face masks.

Vineta Ganesh of Cromarty Farm, Corentyne; Devindra Kumar of Kilcoy, Corentyne; Shazam Khan of Lot 13 ‘G’ King Street, Belvedere, Corentyne; Chandradat Budhoo of Albion Front, Corentyne; Christopher Rose of Lot 106 Albion Front, Corentyne; Dhanwattie Sugrim of Number 71 Village, Corentyne; Phillip Bhadur of Lot 160 Fyrish Road, Corentyne; Raywattie Arjune of Hampshire Public Road, Corentyne; Ofarie Aaron of Courtland Road, Corentyne; Yuvraj Mookram of Lot 61 John’s Village, Corentyne; Michael Clark of Lot 57 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam and Alanzo King of # 1 Road, Corentyne  are to appear before the Albion Magistrate’s Court on May 7.

Additionally, nine persons were also arrested in the New Amsterdam area for failing to wear face masks after police attached to the New Amsterdam Police Station carried out an enforcement exercise.

Edmond Thomas of Lot 57 Smithfield; Alvin Richards of Patrick Dam Angoy’s Avenue; Jared Wickham of Lot 10 -11 Hand-en-Veldt, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara; Troy Weeks of Nicolay Street, New Amsterdam; Leon Mohabir of Lot 270 Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice; Andrea Martin of Number 46 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam; Kurt Bristol of Lot 209 M&TC Housing Scheme, New Amsterdam; Adrian Busjid of Lot 410 Wapping Lane, New Amsterdam and Orlando Crandon of Timmers Dam Angoy’s Avenue are to appear before the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court sometime this week also .
