Fyrish man dies on the job at Albion sugar estate

A fifty-seven-year-old Fyrish resident yesterday fell unconscious while on duty at the Albion Sugar Estate and later passed away.

He was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The deceased is Wazir Mohammad of Lot 19 Fyrish, Village, Corentyne, Berbice.

According to a police report, Mohammad had just completed assigned duties in a canal at the estate and was walking along a dam when at about 10.45 am he started complaining of chest pains. Shortly after, he informed fellow workmates that he was seeing dark, fell down and began gasping for air which led to an alarm being raised.

The estate medical officer was summoned but by then Mohammad was motionless.

Police who arrived at the scene examined the man’s body for marks of violence but found none.

His body was taken to the hospital then to Persaud’s Funeral Home.
