Mon Repos supermarket robbery suspect found injured near crime scene

One of three suspects in the robbery of a Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) supermarket is currently hospitalised under police guard at a city hospital after he was found lying on a road in the area shortly after the crime was reported.

According to a police press statement, ranks of the Beterverwagting Police Station were contacted by an anonymous caller, who reported the robbery.

The caller, police said, reported that the robbery was executed by three men dressed in all black and hoodies.

Acting on information received, the police went to a street in Mon Repos North, where a male, who was wearing a black hoodie and dressed in black, was seen in an unconscious state. He was lying next to a damaged black bicycle.

The police added that the man, who had no external injuries, was escorted to Beterverwagting Police Station, where he was identified as one of the suspects.

The sum of $21,500 cash was found in his possession.

The suspect was then escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he is presently receiving medical attention under police guard.

His two accomplices, who fled the scene on bicycles are yet to be apprehended.
