Absent councillors force postponement of city’s budget

In light of the absence of several city councillors, a scheduled Georgetown Mayor and City Council budget presentation was postponed on Tuesday.

Georgetown Mayor Ubraj Narine told Stabroek News that the presentation by Chairman of the Finance Committee, Oscar Clarke will now be held in the new week.

Narine explained that while there are a total of 30 councillors — 21 from the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), 7 from the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and 2 from the Alliance For Change (AFC) — only 9 APNU councillors were present on Tuesday. As a result, there was no quorum.
